This pre-recorded presentation addressed ethical dilemmas situations where social workers are confronted by two or more conflicting obligations, which independently would be equally upheld.  In an ethical dilemma, acting on one value or duty automatically violates the other one.  Ethical dilemmas challenge us to prioritize values, aspects of the code of ethics and applicable regulations.  Some areas of competing values may include confidentiality, self-determination, dual-relationships, conflict of interest and best interest of clients.  High standards of practice and avoidance of complaints and law suits requires social workers to be able to identify and successfully resolve ethical dilemmas.  In this pre-recorded workshop participants will learn the following:

This pre-recorded presentation is to help familiarize workers with the process and benefits of mediation when applied to a variety of conflicts.  Clients often seek the guidance of social workers when they are faced with divorce and family issues related to divorce.  This presentation will provide information specifically about divorce mediation intended to familiarize the audience with the possible negative repercussions to the children of divorce.  The presentation will compare litigation and mediation results to illustrate the possible advantages of mediation.  The objective is to increase awareness about mediation to social workers will realize the myriad of possibilities for the application of the mediation in their practice.  The mediation process may be utilized to resolve differences, to brainstorm possible resolutions, to bring about change and to resolve conflict.  This information will be valuable to all social work disciplines.

Susan also presented some of her case studies from her newly released book “Soul Visioning : Clear the Past, Create Your Future.”

ceu“Hovering Parents & Combat Veteran Dynamics: A Recipe for Conflict”

This pre-recorded presentation focused on a case example which illustrated the interactive dynamics between hovering behavior by a parent, polytrauma recovery and rehabilitation, and adjustment to a disability in the context of hospital stay. This case example highlighted how this interaction triggered conflict between parents and hospital staff and impacted the rehabilitation process. The presentation also focused on the intervention strategies designed to reduce the conflict and promote positive outcomes during rehabilitation.
